The Training
Petland's unique approach to specialty pet retail and the ability to separate and
differentiate our stores from the big box pet stores and the smaller stores that
focus on pet foods and basic supplies is achieved through the talent of the Petland
franchisee and the talent of the Pet Counselors they employ. You don't have to be
a pet expert to purchase a Petland franchise. Petland prides itself on the best
training programs in the industry for you and your staff. If you love animals, have
a desire to succeed and are committed to building a team of Pet Counselors and Animal
Care Technicians to help you carry out your business plan, you will be a successful
franchise owner.
Petland provides you with 6 weeks of training before and surrounding the opening
of your Petland store; three weeks at our corporate headquarters and three weeks
at your new store. You'll learn the business of operating a Petland store including
financial management, supervision of personnel, animal care techniques, inventory
management, merchandising, community relations, and marketing programs. Petland
will also provide you with comprehensive operations manuals and videos for reference
and to assist you in the ongoing training of your personnel. Throughout the year,
Petland also offers quarterly training programs for you and your key managers, as
well as regional training opportunities.
- Management Training- Petland
offers a comprehensive management training program to prepare each new franchisee
to execute the Petland Operating System. From recruiting and training skills, to
planning and organizing, to buying and merchandising, to financial statement analysis,
the training focuses on preparing each new franchisee to succeed. This one-week
classroom training program is strategic in nature and teaches the mind set necessary
to guide a Petland store to its full market potential. This program teaches "why"
we do what we do.
- Hands-On Training- Petland's
hands on training program provides one week of tactical training in a high volume
Petland training store and covers opening procedures, closing procedures, pet care,
merchandising, buying, scheduling, and leading a real team of Pet Counselors and
animal care associates. This program teaches the "how" we do what we do.
- Inventory Control Management-
This specialized class teaches franchisees and their associates the systems necessary
to monitor inventory, improve margins and the methods to effective and efficient
buying practices.
- Sales Manager Training-
This specialized class teaches franchisees and their associates the best systems
for effective recruiting and Pet Counselor development.
- Pet Counselor 101- This
class is offered in the Petland Business Improvement Center and regionally directly
to Petland Pet Counselors
